GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
NEPENTHES
These are the growing conditions that ALL of our Nepenthes thrive in. We do not use greenhouses or terrariums.
TEMPERATURES: 74 - 80°F during the day, and 56 - 62°F at night.
LIGHTING: It loves bright indirect light, with some morning direct sunlight (up to 1 hr.). LED Lights (for plants) work well, about 10” above plants. We use a combination of White, Red, and yellow led lights. Artificial lights should be on 12-14 hrs./day.
SOIL: Use approximately 50% Sphagnum Moss, 40% (plain horticultural) Perlite, and 10% plain orchid bark, if possible. Be sure there is no charcoal or fertilizer in any of these. NEVER use any "Miracle Grow" products, or any like them that put fertilizers into them. If you don't have the orchid bark, it is acceptable to use 50/50 Sphagnum Moss/Perlite.
WATER: Keep soil “spongy” moist at all times, never allowing soil to dry out. Do NOT sit the plant in water, or have “wet feet”, as the roots will likely rot and the plant will die. Use reverse osmosis, Distilled water, or rain water only.
HUMIDITY: 60+% humidity; if indoors, an ultrasonic humidifier works great near the plant, allowing the fog to scathe the plant. These plants grow under the canopy of the jungles, and those conditions the goal of the grower. A small fan that lightly oscillates across the plants is very good. It should just lightly graze over the plants, barely making the leaves move.
FERTILIZING and FEEDING: Misting leaves with a very small amount of orchid fertilizer, or Maxsea, 400-600 ppm, about every 2 weeks, is good. Occasionally (every 1-2 months) feed the traps a small bug, or small pellet of fish food works well too. Do not over feed these plants, it will kill the pitchers.
